Harris Urges TRS to Find More Affordable Lease Rates

01/24/2020State Representative Cody Harris (Palestine) sent a letter to the executive director of the Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS) on Friday asking the agency to reevaluate its decision to spend $326,000 per month in rent for office space in downtown Austin.
"Having been supported by the State of Texas along with managing a $150 billion trust fund to finance member benefits, I find it extremely concerning that the Teacher Retirement System has a 10-year, $42.5 million lease agreement for the office space in downtown Austin to support the Investment Management Division staff."
Harris continued to say "As a commercial real estate professional, I am confident that more reasonable and affordable lease rates are attainable throughout Texas, including in or around Austin. I would be more than willing to help TRS find an extremely affordable office space in my district to ensure that this agency will make teachers and taxpayers a priority in Texas."
