(Austin, TX) - The Texas Commission on the Arts (TCA) is currently accepting applications from Texas students in grades 8-11 for the Young Masters Program. This program awards grants to talented young artists to further their studies in their chosen field. This grant is not a college scholarship. The most talented young artists will receive the title of Young Master. As a result, TCA will be award grants of $5,000 per year to further their studies in their chosen arts disciplines. Students are to receive the grant for up to two years, but they must submit a plan for study annually. Students must be participating in a school-based arts program, summer institute, a specialized course of study, or receiving private lessons from a qualified instructor. Students must maintain passing grades in all academic areas. Applications will be from the student, his or her parent/guardian, and his or her arts instructor. This program is available every other year.

The application is currently online and will close down on November 15, 2019. Young Texans, their parents/guardians, and arts instructors may find more information and the application on the TCA website at: https://www.arts.texas.gov/initiatives/young-masters/. Chuck Winkler at chuck@arts.texas.gov or 512-936-6575 can answer any additional questions regarding this grant opportunity.

"This is a remarkable opportunity for our young Southeast Texas artists," said State Representative James White. "I applaud the Texas Commission on the Arts for providing this great opportunity for those who seek to pursue a career in the fine arts. During my legislative career, I have emphasized that we must develop and value the God-given talents of all young Texans. The arts provide great opportunities for young Texans to pursue their passions. The awarding of a grant over a traditional scholarship is truly innovative."
