Rep. Lina Ortega Passes Bill to Expedite Wyler Tramway Project  print page

by: Rep. Ortega, Evelina "Lina"

AUSTIN –Following today's House passage of Senate Bill 2248 by Senator José Rodríguez, Rep. Lina Ortega released the following statement:

"Today I passed Senate Bill 2248, which authorizes a partnership between the Camino Real Regional Mobility Authority (CRRMA) and Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) to pursue the Wyler Tramway project. Since the Tramway closed in September 2018, there has been widespread support in the El Paso community to return the Tramway to a safe operating condition to continue to serve the public. Replacing the Wyler Tramway is an extensive project, which the CRRMA has offered to take on. I have committed this session to explore any option that could re-open this gem in our community as soon as possible and Senate Bill 2248 is part of that promise. The support of the City of El Paso, the El Paso Community Foundation, and Camino Real Regional Mobility Authority made passage of this bill possible."

S.B. 2248 now heads to the Governor's desk for final approval.
