STATE REPRESENTATIVE ERNEST BAILES PASSES THREE BILLS OUT OF THE HOUSE THIS WEEK  print page

AUSTIN, TX - State Representative Ernest Bailes has passed three pieces of legislation out of the House this week, sending them to the Senate to continue making their way to the Governor's desk. HB 3397, HB 3631, and HB 4245 passed uncontested.

HB 3397 would appropriate money from the Emergency Radio Infrastructure Account for the planning and development of an interoperable statewide emergency radio infrastructure. This would also fulfill one of Governor Abbott's recommendations from his Commission to Rebuild Texas in response to Hurricane Harvey.

HB 3631 was filed in response to the need for emails to be included in public information requests for those who hold a state license, especially in cases of emergency when time is of the essence.

HB 4245 changes the percentage of registered voters needed to issue a petition to be placed on the ballot for local liquor elections from 35% to 20%. Locals of Walker County Precinct 3 went through this petitioning process to place the local option election on the ballot but barely fell short.

"This bill would still require a local election with voter approval, and merely simplifies the ability to bring the option before the people," Bailes said.

Representative Bailes is serving his second term as a state legislator for District 18, serving on the Energy Resources and Corrections Committees.
