Austin, TX - Today, Texas House Speaker Dennis Bonnen announced committee membership for the 86th Legislature. When asked to comment, State Representative Drew Springer of House District 68 (HD 68) said, “Speaker Bonnen ensured rural Texas is well-represented by appointing rural members to key committees.” Representative Springer added, “I am especially humbled by Speaker Bonnen trusting me to Chair the Agriculture & Livestock Committee, and I'm honored to serve on the House State Affairs Committee and Local & Consent Calendars Committee.”

The House Agriculture & Livestock Committee oversees policy for food and fiber production in the state, which contributes over $150 billion to the Texas economy. HD 68 itself generates around $7.7 billion, or 5%, of Texas' total food and fiber market. The Committee also has jurisdiction over issues relating to rural access to infrastructure, education, and health service.

The powerful House State Affairs Committee has broad jurisdiction over state agencies. The committee oversees the regulation of pipelines, electric utilities, and telecommunications utilities in Texas. Rep. Springer said that “I am looking forward to ensuring reliable electricity and communications services, including broadband, for rural Texans. The committee will also play a crucial role in special issues including pro-life, which is an important values issues for HD 68."
