AUSTIN, TX—State Rep. Sarah Davis has been appointed as Chair of Article II on the House Committee on Appropriations for the 86th Session of the Texas Legislature. In this role, Rep. Davis will remain the House’s lead budget writer on health care, which is the Article II subcommittee’s focus. The appointment was announced today by State Representative John Zerwas, Chair of the Appropriations Committee.

“I am grateful to Chairman Zerwas for returning me to this important post. The decisions we make on this committee impact the lives and health of millions of Texans, including many of our most vulnerable citizens. I look forward to working with my colleagues and helping to lead an appropriations process that prioritizes funding for critical healthcare needs and responsibly stewards our state resources,” said Rep. Davis.

This is Rep. Davis’s second session to chair the Article II subcommittee, and her fourth session to serve on the Appropriations Committee. Rep. Davis was also a budget conferee during the previous two legislative sessions, where she worked to negotiate the final state budgets for the 84th and 85th Texas Legislatures.

A survivor of breast cancer, Rep. Davis is passionate about improving health care in Texas. During her four terms in the House, she worked to expand access to cancer screenings and postpartum depression care, increase funding for women’s health programs, and extended the life of the Cancer Prevention Research Institute of Texas.

“We have accomplished important, lifesaving work, but there is still much to do. Under the leadership of Chairman Zerwas, I believe we will continue to make meaningful gains to improve quality and access to health care for our fellow Texans,” said Rep. Davis.

Rep. Davis represents Texas House District 134, serving West University Place, Bellaire, Southside Place, and portions of Houston. She was first elected in 2010 and is serving her fifth term in the House.
