Freshman representative excited to work on key issues impacting young Texans

AUSTIN--John H. Bucy III (Austin), State Representative for House District 136, today was elected Chair of the Young Texans Legislative Caucus.

"Young Texans have unique opportunities but face unique challenges," Bucy said. "We need to work together to address issues ranging from full day pre-K and student loan debt to adequate housing and jobs. My background as a former county party chair and grassroots organizer informs my collective approach to leadership, consensus building, and problem solving. I look forward to working with my colleagues to increase civic engagement among our peers and fight for the issues that matter most to young people. I also want to thank Vice Chair Neave for her leadership and the smooth transition process."

The Young Texans Legislative Caucus (YTLC) was founded by State Rep. Eric Johnson during the 83rd Legislative Session and is an official caucus of the Texas House of Representatives. Its purpose is to address the needs of Texans under 40 especially laborers, parents, professionals, students, and veterans as well as to increase civic participation among young people in the state. Membership is open to legislators under 40 or those with a district with an under-40 population greater than the state average.
