Speaker Bonnen appoints Shaheen to the House Ways & Means Committee and Vice Chair of the House Urban Affairs Committee

AUSTIN— Plano Representative Matt Shaheen announced today that he has been appointed to serve on the powerful House Ways & Means Committee by Speaker Dennis Bonnen. The House Committee on Ways & Means will be a focal point this legislative session because of its jurisdiction over property taxes. Property tax and school finance reform are top priorities this legislative session. "I am honored Speaker Bonnen has appointed me to serve on Ways & Means. This committee is incredibly important not only for the City of Plano, but to all Texans” said Shaheen.

Speaker Bonnen also asked Representative Shaheen to take a leadership role in the House by appointing him as Vice Chairman of the House Committee on Urban Affairs. Urban Affairs has jurisdiction over all matters pertaining to municipalities and land use regulations. “The Urban Affairs Committee is vitally important to us in Plano, because it tackles the challenges that come with being a successful and growing city. I look forward to the progress we will make on behalf of Plano and all the metropolitan areas in the Lone Star State. I’m honored to serve on this committee and grateful to Speaker Bonnen for appointing me as Vice Chairman.”

Governor Abbott, Speaker Bonnen, and Representative Shaheen are committed to property tax and school finance reform. “The legislature is united in purpose to improve education and reform school finance and property taxes. We are focused on these priorities for the future of our children and to ensure Texas remains an affordable state in which to live. The House is ready to go to work.”

Representative Shaheen is a resident of Plano and serves the citizens
of Texas House District 66 which encompasses west Plano and far north Dallas.
