State Rep. Lynn Stucky statement on Texas House Committee Assignments  print page

by: Rep. Stucky, Lynn

AUSTIN - Today State Representative Lynn Stucky (Denton) was named the Vice-Chair of the House Committee on Higher Education. In addition, he was named to the powerful House Committee on Appropriations and the House Committee on Resolutions Calendars.

"I am extremely honored by the assignments I received today, especially as a Vice-Chair of Higher Education," Stucky said minutes after the assignments were handed down from newly minted House Speaker Dennis Bonnen.

"In my first session, I tried to put my head down and prove myself. I am grateful that Speaker Bonnen has the confidence in my abilities to serve the House and the people of Texas. I look forward to working with my colleagues to ensure a bright future for all Texans."

The House Committee on Higher Education is chaired by State Rep. Chris Turner. Its purpose is to oversee the colleges and universities in Texas, as well as several state agencies connected to institutions of higher learning.

Also significant is Rep. Stucky's appointment to the House Committee on Appropriations, which focuses on organizing the state's budget for the next two years. According to the House Rules for the 86th Texas Legislature, the committee on Resolutions Calendars is a procedural committee that organizes the reading of congratulatory and memorial resolutions on the House Floor.

In his freshman session, Rep. Stucky earned accolades as an "effective" and "efficient" member of the Texas House. Capitol Inside named Stucky the "Most Valuable Freshman" for his efficacy in passing legislation during the 85th Texas Legislature.
