Austin, Texas – Today State Representative Stan Lambert (Abilene) filed his first piece of legislation for the 86th Legislature, House Bill 23. This bill will pay homage to the life and service of Rodney Holder by designating a portion of U.S. Highway 83 in Taylor County as the 'Officer Rodney T. Holder Memorial Highway.'

Upon graduation from Cooper High, Holder enlisted in the U.S. Army and served his country as a member of the 82nd Airborne Division. After receiving an Honorable Discharge, Holder returned to Abilene and became a member of the 29th Abilene Police Academy Class in 1982 serving more than 28 years on the force. During his career, Holder served as a Patrol Officer, SWAT team member, Detective, and Traffic Division Motorcycle Unit. Officer Holder's life was cut tragically short on April 29, 2010 while attempting to make a traffic stop.

"Rodney loved this city and leaves behind a lasting impact that can't be replaced. I'm grateful to the Holder Family for allowing me to file this legislation and memorialize the life of service Rodney gave to this community. I hope the 'Officer Rodney T. Holder Memorial Highway' designation will serve as a reminder of the great sacrifices all of our first responders and their families make to keep our city safe," said Rep. Lambert.

The 86th Legislature will convene on January 8, 2019.
