by: Rep. White, James

(Austin, TX) – The Texas State Affordable Housing Corporation (TSAHC) has awarded grant funding to the Jasper-Newton Long Term Recovery Group through the Housing & Economic Assistance to Rebuild Texas (HEART) program. The HEART program, provides grants for up to $50,000 and technical assistance to nonprofits providing housing assistance to families displaced or otherwise impacted by Hurricane Harvey.

The Jasper-Newton Long Term Recovery Group will receive $50,000 through a HEART grant program, in which Enterprise Community Partners administers the funds. "I am incredibly thankful to TSAHC and Enterprise Community Partners for providing these funds to our citizens in need in Southeast Texas. I am thankful for Pastor Charles Burchett, Rose Korabek, and Connie Hughes for leading the efforts to meet the unmet needs of those impacted by Hurricane Harvey in Newton and Jasper counties," said State Representative James White.

After Jasper and Newton counties were flooded in March of 2016 by the Sabine River, many homeowners were returning to their rebuilt homes when Hurricane Harvey hit on August 2017. Several consecutive years of historic flooding has impacted Southeast Texans. Community faith-based leaders formed the Jasper-Newton Long Term Recovery Group to assist their fellow Texans in Jasper and Newton counties.
