AUSTIN – Texas House Speaker Joe Straus on Wednesday thanked Chief of Staff Patricia Shipton for her outstanding service and leadership over the last several years. Shipton has decided to leave the Speaker’s office to return to the private sector.
Shipton has been Speaker Straus' Chief of Staff since April 2016, and she has worked for him since August 2012. She previously served as Legislative Director for then-Gov. Rick Perry.
"I could not be more grateful for Patricia's leadership, her support and her friendship over these last several years," Speaker Straus said. "She has been an extraordinary asset to me and to the entire Texas House, and I am very proud of the way that she has led our team and worked with the members of the House. Patricia is a true public servant who has great respect for the legislative process and a real commitment to a better future for Texas.”
Effective Thursday, Andrew Blifford will assume the Chief of Staff duties in the Speaker’s office. Blifford has worked in the Speaker’s office since 2009 and currently serves as Director of Budget and Policy.
"Andrew will provide the staff leadership needed to ensure that the Texas House is prepared for another successful legislative session in 2019," Speaker Straus said. “Andrew is well-respected among the members of the Texas House and has played an invaluable role in our office over the last 10 years.”
