State Representative Wayne Faircloth Accepting Applications for the 2018-2019 Texas Armed Services Scholarship Program  print page

(Austin, Texas) - State Representative Wayne Faircloth of Texas House District 23 (Chambers and Galveston County) is currently accepting applications for nomination to the 2018-2019 Texas Armed Services Scholarship Program.

As passed during the 81st Legislative Session, the Texas Armed Services Scholarship Program is to encourage students to become members of the Texas Army National Guard, the Texas Air National Guard, the Texas State Guard, the United States Coast Guard, or the United States Merchant Marine, or to become commissioned officers in any branch of the armed services of the United States.

In order to apply, you need to first meet two of the following four academic criteria:
• Is on track to graduate or graduated high school with the Distinguished Achievement Program (DAP) or the International Baccalaureate Program (IB).
• A high school GPA of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale.
• Achieved a college readiness score on the SAT (1070) or ACT (23).
• Ranked in the top one-third of the prospective high school graduating class.

In addition to the requirements listed above, eligible students must also enroll in a Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC) with a four year commitment for completion, as well as agree to a four year commitment to be a member of the Texas Army National Guard, Texas Air National Guard, Texas State Guard, United States Coast Guard, or United States Merchant Marine.

If the criteria noted above is met and the nomination received, a scholarship up to $4,000 for the 2018-2019 school year will be awarded, as well as a potential scholarship for four to six years of tuition dependent on funding. Once the attached application is completed with the provided necessary additional criteria as instructed in the application, only then will you be eligible for consideration of nomination.
