Chairman Sarah Davis Announces Joint Hearing to Investigate State Managed Care  print page

by: Rep. Davis, Sarah

AUSTIN, TX—Representative Sarah Davis, Chairman of the House Committee on General Investigating and Ethics (GIE) and Appropriations Subcommittee on Article II, will hold a joint hearing on June 27, 2018 to investigate reports of managed care failures at the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC).

"Recent reports have revealed horrific examples of failures in the Medicaid managed care delivery system. Cases such as a disabled baby nearly choking to death and suffering irreparable brain damage and a quadriplegic individual spending 14 hours a day alone in bed after having services denied are not only hard to read, but hard to imagine," Davis observed.

“The Texas House of Representatives, under the leadership of Speaker Joe Straus, has been sounding the alarm about problems in the administration of managed care within the executive agency of HHSC since the regular session. With the recent departure of much of the agency’s leadership, including the Executive Commissioner, it is more important than ever to identify the failures in the system and arrive at solutions.”

Davis concluded, "This hearing seeks to pave the path forward for the agency and managed care. If properly administered, and with strict oversight, managed care can produce positive outcomes for our most vulnerable.”

The Joint Article II/GIE Hearing will take place on Wednesday, June 27 at 10:30 AM in Room E1.032 of the Texas Capitol.
