State Rep. Victoria Neave Offers $4,000 Scholarship Opportunity for Students of House District 107 via Texas Armed Services Scholarship Program  print page

DALLAS, TEXAS ─ State Representative Victoria Neave announced today that she is offering a scholarship opportunity for students that reside in House District 107 which encompasses parts of East Dallas, Garland, and Mesquite, Texas via the Texas Armed Services Scholarship Program. The scholarship, administered by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, allows students planning to serve in the military after college to receive up to $4,000 for the 2018-2019 academic year after receiving a nomination from a State Legislator and meeting certain criteria.

"I am honored to offer this $4,000 scholarship opportunity to students from House District 107 and hope to help a student from our community who has a desire to serve our country in the U.S. Armed Services achieve his or her dreams,” says State Representative Victoria Neave. “We have bright, phenomenal students in our community who will undoubtedly make a positive impact on our society, and we look forward to reviewing scholarship applications.”

Students in House District 107 with strong academic achievement, solid leadership experience, a commitment to community service, and who meet the THECB’s requirements are encouraged to apply. The TASSP Scholarship program encourages students to become commissioned officers in any branch of the armed services of the United States or members of the Texas Army National Guard, the Texas Air National Guard, the Texas State Guard, the United States Coast Guard or the United States Merchant Marine.

To be eligible to receive the scholarship, applicants must meet the TASSP Requirements by enrolling in a Texas public or private accredited institution of higher education, committing to four years of training through the Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC) program and planning to enter the armed services upon graduation. Nominees must also meet two of the following four academic criteria at the time of application:
(1) be on track to graduate high school or have already graduated with the Distinguished Level of Achievement Plan or International Baccalaureate Program;
(2) have a high school GPA of 3.0 or higher;
(3) achieve an SAT score of 1070 or ACT score of 23; or
(4) be ranked in the top one-third of the high school graduating class.

To be considered for the scholarship, applicants must submit a resume, statement of interest, and three references to by July 13, 2018. Students are encouraged to apply as soon as possible. For more information, call (972) 288-9438.
