State Rep. Helen Giddings Mourns the Passing of Ms. Margaret McDermott  print page

by: Rep.

AUSTIN - Representative Helen Giddings released the following statement on the passing of Dallas philanthropist Margaret McDermott:

"Margaret McDermott was a person who loved Dallas. She was always willing to assist for a worthy cause. She embraced the value of the arts and the necessity for inclusion. For many years, she has been a strong supporter of the African American Museum. The African collection at the Dallas Museum of Art bears her handprints because of the invaluable support she offered. Over the years, I had the pleasure of working with Mrs. McDermott on many initiatives with the University of Texas at Dallas. It was work we both found rewarding on behalf of an institution we both treasured. Our prayers go out to her daughter, Mary, and her entire family."

Representative Helen Giddings proudly serves the cities of House District 109: Dallas, DeSoto, Cedar Hill, Glenn Heights, Hutchins, Lancaster, and Wilmer.
