Dallas- On August 11, Rep. Helen Giddings joined Lancaster Mayor Marcus Knight to discuss her perspective on the successes and failures from the 85th Legislative Sessions. They discussed the Governor's special session call, as well as Rep. Giddings' legislative priorities and achievements. The event is put together by the Best Southwest Partnership, a cooperative effort among the communities of Cedar Hill, DeSoto, Duncanville, and Lancaster, with additional associate members, to promote economic, legislative, and educational well-being for Southwest Dallas and Northern Ellis Counties.
A notable moment in the conversation occurred when Rep. Giddings conducted a poll of the 100+ attendees on whether they would support the state putting a revenue cap on local municipalities. There was not one vote in favor.
Representative Giddings released the following statement: "Conversations like this one give me a rejuvenated sense of purpose and direction. The cities of the Best Southwest Partnership are continuing to innovate in the service of their constituents. Those of us in the Legislature should listen to our local leaders and allow them room to make decisions that best serve our communities."
Representative Helen Giddings proudly serves the cities of House District 109: Dallas, DeSoto, Cedar Hill, Glenn Heights, Hutchins, Lancaster, Wilmer, as well as part of Duncanville.
