Austin, Texas - On Tuesday, May 2, 2017, Representative Arevalo's House Bill 3682 (HB 3682) passed out of the House Committee on Public Health with a vote of 10-0.
"Unfortunately for many Texans, health literacy has recently been recognized as a significant barrier for many individuals in our state to access the health care system they deserve," said Representative Arévalo.
HB 3682 aims to improve rates of health literacy throughout Texas. "Health literacy" is defined as the degree to which individuals have the capacity to obtain, process, and understand basic health information and services need to make appropriate health decisions for themselves.
In closing, Representative Arévalo stated to the committee, "House Bill 3682 aims to improve health literacy which will in turn empower Texas' patients to become better stewards of their own health and alleviate the unbeknownst cost burden to our state."
