Austin – Representative Abel Herrero, Robstown, has been appointed Chair of the House Committee on Land and Resource Management.

“I am humbled and honored to serve in a position where I can contribute positively to the Coastal Bend and all of Texas,” Rep. Herrero said. “I look forward to ensuring responsible stewardship of our public lands, preserving private property rights and protecting our beautiful coastal beaches.”

Land and Resource Management oversees all matters relating to management of public lands, the power of eminent domain, zoning and regulation of land use. Also serving on the committee will be Vice-Chair Rep. Cecil Bell Jr. along with Reps. Ernest Bailes, César Blanco, Wayne Faircloth, Matt Krause, and Lynn Stucky.

Chairman Herrero will also serve on the House Committee on Licensing & Administrative Procedures.

“I look forward to ensuring that regulations are fair to businesses and also maintaining the safety of consumers,” Herrero said. “While fulfilling our responsibilities, we must also allow businesses to grow and prosper.”

Rep. Herrero previously served two terms as Chair of the House Committee on Criminal Jurisprudence. During his tenure, Rep. Herrero helped tackle many issues, such as ending family violence, bail reform and improving indigent defense. Herrero will continue to work with members on helping to end the cycle of violence.

Rep. Herrero is now serving in his sixth term as a member of the Texas House of Representatives. He represents District 34, which includes Robstown, Bishop, Banquete, Petronila, Agua Dulce, Driscoll, and parts of Corpus Christi and Sandia.
