DALLAS, Texas- Today, October 6, 2015, marks National Night Out, an annual, nationwide neighborhood watch campaign. The program aims to strengthen police-community partnerships, heighten drug and crime prevention awareness, and grow support and participation in crime efforts. Citizens across the country will join together to send a message that their neighborhoods are united and fighting back against crime. Most cities celebrate by turning on porch lights and joining in fellowship outside with their neighbors, police officers, firefighters, and EMS paramedics.
"I am grateful to all of our law enforcement agencies and first responders in the district and across the state of Texas. I encourage citizens tonight to unite in our dedication to build a safer, stronger community," said Rep Koop.
This evening, neighborhoods throughout Addison, Dallas, Richardson, and Garland will participate in National Night Out festivities. Dallas Fire-Rescue and Dallas Police Department will make the acquaintances of various organizations and communities while attending nearly 50 National Night Out events across the city. The City of Richardson will compete in Category 2 (cities with pop. 100,000 - 299,000) for 1st place in the nation to highlight the great Police and community partnership in the fight against crime.
