Harbor Bridge Project Moves Forward  print page

by: Rep. Herrero, Abel

Austin - Today, the Texas Transportation Commission in Austin held a meeting to approve the selection of the best value proposal to develop the US 181 Harbor Bridge Replacement Project. Flatiron/Dragados USA received the selection and the next step is for the Texas Department of Transportation to negotiate and execute a Comprehensive Development Agreement with the company.

"For many years the Harbor Bridge has served as a landmark for Corpus Christi," said Rep. Herrero. "In the near future, this new gateway will be a catalyst for continued economic growth through efficient transportation and a better connected Coastal Bend."

The current Harbor Bridge originally opened in 1959 and while it has served the community well for over fifty years, the City must keep pace with its rapidly growing needs. The new bridge will span 4.5 miles from US 181 to SH 286 and provide additional lanes to help protect the safety of drivers. Furthermore, the new Harbor Bridge will be tailored to meet the needs of the growing Port and encourage affected industries to thrive.

Rep. Herrero further stated "The new Harbor Bridge will continue to illuminate the Corpus Christi skyline as a symbol of the spirit of our community. A spirit that continuously moves forward to achieve prosperity."
