AUSTIN – Today, House Speaker Joe Straus announced committee assignments for the 84th Session of the Texas House of Representatives, and appointed Representative Ed Thompson as Vice-Chair of the House Committee on Land & Resource Management as well as a member of the House Committee on Environmental Regulation.

"I am humbled to receive this vote of confidence from House leadership," Thompson said of his appointments. “Constituents in District 29 will have a strong voice in pivotal discussions involving the General Land Office, eminent domain, coastal management, and industrial development, just to name a few," Thompson affirmed.

The Land & Resource Management Committee Chairman is Rep. Joe Deshotel (District 22). This committee has oversight of issues related to the management of public lands, the power of eminent domain, annexation, zoning, and other governmental regulation of land use, as well as the following state agencies: the School Land Board, the Board for Lease of University Lands, and the General Land Office.

The Environmental Regulation Committee will be chaired by Rep. Geanie Morrison (District 30). The committee has oversight over air, land, and water pollution, including the environmental regulation of industrial development; the regulation of waste disposal; environmental matters that are regulated by the Department of State Health Services or the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality; oversight of the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality as it relates to environmental regulation; and the Texas Low-Level Radioactive Waste Disposal Compact Commission.

“I thoroughly enjoyed working on Environmental Regulation during my first session, and look forward to working with stakeholders and new committee members on issues of immense importance to District 29 and to the state,” he said.

Representative Thompson is serving his second term in the Texas House of Representatives. During the 83rd Legislature, he served on the Environmental Regulation and Special Purpose Districts Committees.

"I am excited to work with my fellow Committee Members, and am eager for the unique opportunity to work on a diverse range of issues this session."
