LOCAL PROJECTS GRANT TO PURCHASE LIFE-SAVING EQUIPMENT

MISSION, TX – State Representative Sergio Muñoz Jr. is pleased to announce that the Mission Fire Department recently received a grant from the Department of State Health and Human Services (DSHS). The grant will fund the purchase of medical, training, and safety equipment for the Mission Fire Department.

"I am very pleased that the Department of State Health and Human Services saw fit to award this grant to a very deserving fire department; and I am very proud to represent such a fine department that not only fights fires, but has gone beyond that duty to provide medical services to the citizens of Mission," said Muñoz.

The grant, totaling an amount of $16,872, will assist emergency providers in saving the lives of ill and injured residents. The Mission Fire Department currently protects more than 60,000 individuals during the winter and roughly 40,000 persons during the spring and summer season. The Department has been involved in Emergency Medical Response for the last 10 years, and since 2012, it has been registered as an Emergency 1st Responder Organization through the Texas Department of State Health Services.

Of the grant award, Mission F.D. Chief Ricardo Saldaña said "The department prides itself in providing this service to our citizens. The 2014 EMS Local Project Grant was awarded for equipment to be utilized by the department's 1st responders, and the equipment is placed at the five fire stations located throughout the city."

"This grant has been a great resource for the purchase of much needed equipment. We appreciate the State Government greatly for offering this grant program statewide to the 1st Responder Programs and Emergency Medical Services Providers. The program is a great asset to the citizens of the great state of Texas and it is our hope to see that this type of assistance continues," added Saldaña.
