by: Rep. Rose, Toni

Austin, Texas-- The Texas Legislative Black Caucus (TLBC) held its Bi-Annual African American Legislative Summit February 24-26, 2013. Themed “The Building of Our Community Starts with Me,” this year’s summit examined critical issues that impact the African American community. Informative panel discussions were presented on varied topics including international relationships, education, health care, and the criminal justice system.

During the summit, the TLBC awarded scholarships to deserving students from across the State. From District 110, the following High School seniors received scholarship awards in the amount of $1,500: Raekwon D. Halton from Life School Oak Cliff; Paulo Martinez from Yvonne A. Ewell Townview Center and Irma Lucia Puga Lule from Irma Rangel Young Women's Leadership School.

The TLBC also honored citizens in each district that have made outstanding contributions to their communities. The Outstanding Texan Award from District 110 was awarded to the Honorable Charles Rose. Judge Rose is a retired four-term Justice of the Peace and a strong supporter of the continuing growth of Dallas County. He currently serves as Chairman of the Southeast Oak Cliff Community Leadership Association.

Representative Rose congratulates these deserving District 110 residents on their achievements. District 110 includes Dallas, Balch Springs and Mesquite.
