Supporting bayou greenways and watersheds through education and sustainable policies

AUSTIN, TX -- On February 19th, Representative Jessica Farrar will sponsor a reception and House Resolution in honor of Bayou Day. These events will bring together professionals who represent various Bayou Greenway systems in the Houston area to support and advocate for watershed policies.

The network of bayous surrounding Houston-- affectionately known as the "Bayou City"-- is one of the metropolis's most unique and prominent features. A natural resource for Houston that provides diverse habitats for flora and fauna, this network of bayous also helps to control destructive flooding.

Bayous and their greenways contribute to the active, outdoor lifestyle of Houston residents. The organizations that work to preserve these spaces ensure these resources remain in place. Through outreach, public education and sustainable policies, Houstonians are creating healthy communities to call home.

The following organizations will be present to observe Bayou Day: Buffalo Bayou Partnership, Greens Bayou Corridor Coalition, Bayou Land Conservancy, Houston Parks Board, Greater Houston Partnership, Energy Corridor, Brays Bayou Association, Cypress Creek Flood Control Coalition, Bayou Preservation Association, and Houston Wilderness.
