Afforded special honor by Speaker of the House on first day

Austin, TX – At Noon on Tuesday, January 8, 2013, Ken King took the oath of office, joining a freshman class of forty-four new members to the Texas State House of Representatives being sworn in to office for the 83rd Session of the Texas Legislature.

“It is my great honor to serve the people of the Panhandle and South Plains,” said King, who was joined on the floor of the State House for the ceremony by his wife Robin and their two children, Kaleb and Karis. Also in attendance were his father and mother, Buddy and Paulette King of Canadian, Texas.

“This year is one that’s filled with challenges and also some great opportunities for our part of Texas," said King. "We’ll work hard to maintain our strong Texas economy, especially in both the energy and agricultural sectors. Also, I think we’re going to be able to make some good investments in both public education and higher education; That’s going to be good for our area.”

King received a special honor in being asked by the Speaker of the House, Joe Straus (San Antonio), to serve as part of his escort committee This honor is afforded to only twenty members of the House and is noteworthy for the freshman from West Texas.

“It was a great honor and privilege to be a part of the escort committee,” King said.

King, who lives in Canadian and who serves as Vice President of King Well Service, Inc., a 50 plus-year-old oil field equipment services company, was past school board President for Canadian ISD for five years before becoming a member of the 83rd Legislature.
