Austin, TX- State Representative Paul Workman (Austin) is proud to announce his designation as a "Courageous Conservative" by the Texas Conservative Coalition. The award is given after each session in recognition of legislators’ efforts to advance, support, and vote for conservative policy positions.
"Following my first legislative session, I am truly honored to receive this award," said Workman. "Limiting government, protecting individual liberties, promoting free enterprise and upholding traditional family values are key factors in what makes Texas the beacon of conservatism throughout the nation. I believe that the future is bright for Texas as long as we remain true to these core principles."
Based on 174 votes, the TCC scorecard for the 82nd Legislature is perhaps the most comprehensive snapshot of members' voting records. In order to receive recognition as a “Courageous Conservative” for the House of Representatives, a legislator must have met or exceeded the mean score of the top two-thirds of all members on the TCC scorecard, and must have signed the TCC's “Pledge with Texans”.
During his first year in the legislature, Representative Workman filed a resolution urging Congress to respect the 10th Amendment, protect states' rights, and reduce the federal income tax. Workman also filed a resolution calling on President Obama to uphold the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA).
Representative Workman represents House District 47 in southwest Travis County. He serves on the Business and Industry, Corrections, and Rules and Resolutions Committees. Workman was appointed earlier this year to represent Texas on the Energy Council, and he serves on the National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL) Task Force on Labor and Economic Development.
