AUSTIN -- State Representative Dawnna Dukes (Austin) is pleased to announce that in honor of Martin Luther King, Jr.ís Birthday she is sponsoring the TENTH ANNUAL MLK, JR. BLVD. CLEAN UP CELEBRATION. This year's celebration will be included in the "MLK Day of Service" presented by United Way & Hands On Central Texas. The purpose of the event is to clean up litter in East Austin along Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard from Airport Boulevard to Springdale Road. "Dr. King knew the importance of people, especially young people, having pride in their community and feeling a connection to one another. What better way to commemorate King's mission and honor his life than by coming together and participating in a community clean-up," Rep. Dukes said. The date for the event is Saturday, January 17, 2009. Volunteers are invited to assemble at J.J. Seabrook Park located on the corner Pershing Drive and Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard at 11:00 a.m.
The following businesses and organizations helped to make this event possible: Keep Austin Beautiful, Austin Parks & Recreation, Pro Arts Collective, Fiesta Mart, Capital Metro, Coca Cola, H-E-B, Reddy Ice, Solid Waste Services.
