(AUSTIN, TX) - State Representative Angie Chen Button's priority during the 81st legislative session is a strong, independent, and thriving Texas economy. According to Rep. Button, "It is necessary to do all we can to minimize any negative impact the nation's current economic downturn has on the great State of Texas. Historically, Texas has been one of the top job creators in the nation. We are currently facing a bleak national economy, and although Texas has not been impacted to the extent that other states have, it is important for legislators to plan ahead."

Representative Button has discussed these concerns with her colleagues Representative Jim Pitts (Waxahachie), Representative Dan Branch (Dallas), Representative Roberto Alonzo (Dallas), and Representative Rafael Anchia (Dallas) and they all share her desire to retain jobs in Texas. She is pleased to work with the input of these members along with Senator Shapiro and Senator Carona on legislation to provide businesses with tools to help them retain jobs.

One part of Button’s legislation would allow the Governor's office the discretion to use the Enterprise Fund for job retention in times of economic stress. The Texas Enterprise Fund (TEF) provides the state’s leaders with a “deal closing fund” that has the flexibility and financial resources to help strengthen the state’s economy. Currently, the fund can be used for a variety of economic development projects including infrastructure and community development, job training programs, and business incentives.

Additionally, Rep. Button is working on legislation that will provide tax incentives for certain job creation and retention activities. This legislation is not intended to interfere with any business' operation or plans but to simply provide an additional tool Texas can use to keep our economy strong.

With this legislation still in the developmental phase, Representative Button is asking elected leaders and business leaders to provide input on ways Texas can maintain its strong economy. "It will take good ideas from both government and industry to keep the Texas economy strong and keep Texas workers employed. Please contact my office at 512-463-0486 with your questions or input."

Currently serving her first term in the Texas House of Representatives, Representative Angie Chen Button serves portions of Richardson and Garland in Dallas County.
