by: Rep. Craddick, Tom

(Austin) - The Texas Tree Growers Association delivered three Christmas Trees to the Texas State Capitol today. The trees were delivered to the North Steps of the Texas Capitol by the horse drawn Gelbe Rose (Yellow Rose) Carriage.

One of the trees has been be designated as an "Angel Tree" and will be decorated with gift tags for dozens of foster children under the care of Child Protective Services. Visitors to the capitol can then donate to help these children during the holiday season.

"Christmas is a beautiful time of year, and this is a great Texas Christmas tradition," said Nadine Craddick, wife of Speaker Tom Craddick. "The Angel tree is extra special because so many Texans embrace it and give so that these children can experience a Christmas as close to normal as is possible in difficult circumstances."

The trees were delivered by Marc and Twyla Nash, owners of the Elgin Christmas Tree Farm. Marc is the incoming president of the Texas Christmas Tree Growers Association. Three generations of the Nash family involved with growing Christmas Trees were represented. They delivered the trees to Nadine Craddick, Assistant Secretary of State Coby Shorter and Patsy Spaw, Secretary of the Senate.

"One of the many things a Christmas tree symbolizes is the faith and hope of mankind," Shorter said. "My wish is that this tree in some small way contributes to a season of peace and renewal for all Texans."

The Angel Tree will be placed outside the Capitol Grill in the Capitol Extension. Two other trees will be placed in the Governor's Reception Room and the Lt. Governor's Reception Office.
