(AUSTIN) – Today, Speaker Tom Craddick (Midland) announced the appointment of Rep. Jimmie Don Aycock (Lampasas) as a member-at-large to The Energy Council, a non-profit corporation that assists in the creation of federal and state public policy on energy.

“Rep. Aycock is a committed public servant who recognizes the challenges energy consumers face today, and who will be a strong proponent of the development of renewable resources, as well as expanded exploration of domestic energy," Speaker Craddick said. "I congratulate him on this position, and I am confident that he will give his district and central Texas an important voice in developing energy policy in our state and across the nation."

The Energy Council was founded in 1975, in Texas, as the Southwest Regional Energy Council. The Council's member states comprise those that produce the majority of the United States' oil and gas, as well as coal, uranium and renewable energy. They include: Alabama, Alaska, Arkansas, Colorado, Kansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Texas and Wyoming. Five Canadian provinces are included as well, along with Venezuela. The Energy Council is headquartered in Dallas and is funded by its member states. It holds quarterly conferences every year.

"I am honored by Speaker Craddick's confidence in me," Rep. Aycock said. "As a participant in this organization, I look forward to being a part of finding and developing alternative energy sources."

Rep. Aycock is serving his first term as representative for District 54, which includes Lampasas County, Burnet County and a portion of Bell County. He is a member of the House Agriculture and Livestock Committee, the House Higher Education Committee and the House Redistricting Committee. Rep. Aycock is a speaker's appointee to the Texas Legislative Council and serves on the National Conference of State Legislatures' (NCSL) Committee on Agriculture, Environment and Energy. Nominated by Speaker Craddick and selected by the State Legislative Leaders Foundation to be a participant, Rep. Aycock is currently attending "The Program for Emerging Political Leaders, Preparing the Next Generation of Leadership in America" at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, Virginia.
