(Austin) –Speaker Tom Craddick (Midland), today, announced the appointment of Rep. Brandon Creighton (Conroe) as vice chair of the House Natural Resources Committee, which oversees the conservation, control and development of the state's natural resources. Rep. Creighton's appointment fills the vacancy left by Rep. Mike Hamilton, who recently was appointed chair of the committee.

"Rep. Creighton has demonstrated a clear understanding of the issues surrounding the state's natural resources, especially those relating to water, and he works well with the committee's members," Speaker Craddick said. "I am confident that this committee will benefit from his leadership."

"I am honored and humbled that Speaker Craddick has appointed me vice-chairman of the Natural Resources Committee," Rep. Creighton said. "As a former member of my local groundwater district, I hope to demonstrate to my colleagues, my fellow Texans and the people of Montgomery County the importance of long-term water planning so that we can both protect our natural resources and plan for a growing, vibrant economy in a responsible way.

The committee has nine members. In addition to overseeing the conservation, control and development of the state's natural resources, the committee also has jurisdiction over irrigation, irrigation companies, and irrigation districts, the regulation of water supply districts, water control and improvement districts, as well as conservation and reclamation districts.
