Biography

Mary Ann Perez is a former Houston Community College Board of Trustees Chair and current State Representative for Texas House District 144. After graduating from Milby High School, Mary Ann worked her way through college, earning a degree in Business Administration from University of Houston-Downtown. She went on to build a successful insurance agency located in Southeast Harris County. While busy with her career, she was never too busy for her two sons or her neighborhood. She was an active Little League and school volunteer, and served as President of the Meadow Creek Civic Association. 

Mary Ann would then be elected to the Houston Community College Board of Trustees in 2009. As a trustee, Mary Ann worked hard to move HCC and our community forward by partnering with area employers to ensure the programs reflect the needs of today’s workforce and community. She worked with area schools and community groups to develop programs to keep children in school and continuing their education. During her first term, she was chosen as Freshman of the Year by the bipartisan Legislative Study Group, and continues to work across the aisle to move Texas forward. 

Representative Mary Ann Perez is serving her fifth term in the Texas House of Representatives and serves on the Texas House Committees on Insurance and on Transportation. House District 144 includes all of South Houston and portions of the Houston, Pasadena, and Deer Park.

Mary Ann Perez es ex Presidenta del Consejo de Administración de Houston Community College y actualmente es Representante del Distrito 144 en el Congreso de Texas. Después de graduarse de Milby High School, Mary Ann se esforzó hasta llegar a la Universidad en donde obtuvo el título de Administración de Empresas de la Universidad de Houston Downtown. Después Mary Ann creó una exitosa Agencia de Seguros ubicada en el Sureste del Condado de Harris. Aunque estaba muy ocupada con su carrera, nunca descuidó a sus dos hijos y a su Comunidad. Ella era un miembro activo de Little League y una voluntaria de la escuela; también era Presidente de la Asociación de Meadow Creek Civic.

En el 2009, Mary Ann fue elegida como miembro del Consejo de Administración de Houston Community College. Como miembro, Mary Ann trabajó mucho para ayudar a HCC y a su comunidad, haciendo asociaciones con empresarios para asegurarse que los programas reflejaran las necesidades de la comunidad y de su personal. Trabajó con escuelas de la zona y con grupos de la comunidad para poder desarrollar programas que ayudaban a mantener a los niños estudiando y así pudieran continuar su educación. Durante su primer período cómo Congresista, ella fue elegida como Miembro del Año por el Grupo de Estudio Legislativo Bipartidista, y sigue trabajando para que Texas progrese.

Rep. Mary Ann Perez está trabajando en su quinto término en la Cámara de Representantes de Texas y es parte del Comité de Transportación y el Comité de Seguros. El Distrito 144 incluye el Sur de Houston y partes de Houston, Pasadena, y Deer Park.
